Potomac Leather Company was founded in 1983 by Bill and Virginia Watson. Bill went to school for Western saddle making. Virginia's formal training was from Randy Merrell, where she learned how to make cowboy boots. In the beginning they specialized in custom leather work. Commission work was done for President George Bush, President Ronald Reagan, a Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, a Secretary of Defense, a Secretary of the Air Force, and even Eric Clapton. They designed their own line and have specialized in Medieval and Renaissance clothing and accessories. In the mid 1990s they started a new business, Wolfstone Kilt Company. This company specializes in Scottish, Irish, and Scandinavian (Viking) historical reproduction clothing from the 600s through 1800s.
