COVID-19 Consequences
After being in business for, hmm, for 36 years, and growing each year, it feels other-worldly to pause. Things seem a bit unreal for most of us, I am sure. To expect everything to be just the same as it was last year would be imprudent, except for one thing, the spirit of all of us. The joie de vivre, the lightheartedness, liveliness, the zest for life is something that I have learned not to discount. I think that is something that all show people know to be true, that the old adage, “The show must go on!” is a hidden influence that pushes us folk to rise to whatever the occasion is and make it happen. It always seems to come down to that! Just ignore whatever is stopping you and get it done, nicely, because the minute that you get serious, the magic disappears.
We all need a lot of magic now. I wanted to take this time and let you know that we at Potomac Leather Co. and Wolfstone Kilt Co. appreciate the shared magic of every show that we do, of every customer, of all the talented acts, musicians, food vendors, and the talented management that knits all of this together for us. We are blessed and are very grateful. We wish that everyone stay healthy and safe.
We will participate in all our shows that open in 2020. If a show is cancelled, you will see that information on the splash page of our website - look for our show schedule. Right now we are under a stay-at-home order from the Virginia Governor until June 10th, and our workshops are closed until then. We hope to open the studio after that date but do visit our home page for the current situation.
We are taking orders on our website, by email or by phone, but we can only ship out what is in stock as the workshop is now closed. We do have many, many things in stock though!! If you would like to know if an item is in stock, just shoot me an email or call. Some wonderful folks have place custom orders and are willing to wait until later for them to be done, so this is also available. If you have already placed a custom order with us, some are ready to be shipped as soon as the balances are paid. If you are unable to pay the balance now, do not worry, we will keep your item safe and you can pay it off later. Other orders will be produced mid-June once the workshop is allowed to be open. We have not forgotten any of our wonderful customers!
And I must share a story that pulled me out of my gloomy mood. A lady called yesterday to check on her order. I told her that the workshop was closed but her tartan was with us (The mills in Scotland are now closed temporarily), and it should be made by the end of June. She told me about the first time that she had dealt with our company and how much the clothing meant to her and assured me that she would see me at the Maryland Renaissance Festival and be buying more for her and her husband. She wanted me to know that we were still important to her, and that she loved our clothes. I cannot put into words how wonderful her phone call was for me. I would like to pass that along and tell all of you how much you mean to us. Some customers, we have known now for years - many of whom, we have know for more years than I care to admit! Our customers are generational as we are now dealing with the children of customers and in some cases, their grandkids! We have so many wonderful stories and crazy adventures at the shows and on the road, all of which have made our lives very fulfilling. Thank you all for sharing your lives with us and we look forward to seeing you as soon as we can!
Cheers! Bill & Virginia Watson
